10 Pronouns Board Games, Card Games, and Flashcards for K to Grade 2

Learning about pronouns is overwhelming as there are different types to remember. And pronouns, board games, card games, and flashcards make learning about this part of speech easier and more fun.

I found ten flashcards, board, and card games. Most card games are memory and matching games, while the board games are roll-and-move games. My most recommended game is the Pronouns Playing Cards which features the different types of pronouns and a variety of game options.

Pronouns Card Games

Pronoun Parade (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families | Age 5+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

Pronoun ParadeOpens in a new tab. is a matching card game featuring 27 card pairs. This set introduces three pronouns—he, she, and they.

The set comes with several game ideas, like the classic memory game and a more kinesthetic game with “act it out.” With the latter, players are grouped in pairs. Then, they take turns copying an action from the cards. Other children will then have to guess the action using the correct pronoun.

I like this game because it is easy to use. There are only 27 pairs, but it offers activities that let a small group still enjoy the set. The texts are simple and perfect for children who are only starting to read. And the cards are self-correcting, too, since the same picture is featured in the matching pairs.

The only downside is that the cards are small, making them hard to handle for younger players.

120 Pronoun Fill-in Sentence Cards (Super Duper Publications)

★★★☆☆

For Families | Age 6+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

120 Pronoun Fill-in Sentence CardsOpens in a new tab. feature 120 illustrated cards divided into four categories:

  • Subjective Pronouns – I, you, he, she
  • Objective Pronouns – me, you, him, it
  • Possessive Pronouns – my, your, his, her
  • Reflexive Pronouns – myself, yourself, herself

The set offers several game ideas. One of them lets your children play with one deck (a specific group of pronouns) at a time. Players pick a sentence card and give all pronouns that can complete it. They get one point for every correct answer, then the player with the highest number of points wins.

I like this set because it can be used during study and playtime. They also introduce the different kinds of pronouns in one set, which I think is a bargain for this price. There are also several gameplay options, so the game has high replayability.

However, I am giving 120 Pronoun Fill-in Sentence Cards only three stars because the images are sometimes confusing. It can be hard to differentiate male from female characters, which is problematic since pronouns have genders.

Pronoun Throwdown (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families | Age 6+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

Pronoun ThrowdownOpens in a new tab. is another fun card game set from Super Duper Publications that offer different gameplay options. It features three types of pronouns:

  • 35 Subject Pronoun Cards
  • 35 Objective Pronoun Cards
  • 60 Possessive Pronoun Cards

You can use the set to play Go Fish, Memory, and Concentrations, classic easy-to-play and set-up games.

I highly recommend this set because of its vibrant and colorful illustrations that are engaging for young children. Adults can also opt to focus on a specific set of pronouns to make the gameplay longer, shorter, harder, or easier. In addition, the cards have colored edges for easier organization.

Using His, Her, & Their (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families | Age 6+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

If you want to start teaching possessive pronouns, Using His, Her & TheirOpens in a new tab. is a great card set to have. This game comes with 52 illustrated cards—26 pairs of character introductions with question and pronoun/answer cards.

You can use this set as a memory game for easy use and setup. Or as a Give & Take game where players are divided into teams of two and given a set of cards. Player one will read from their deck, and player 2 will find the card from his hand to match it. For the second game, you need to divide the set and make sure that there are matching cards per deck before playing.

I like this deck because it is self-correcting. The images for question cards and answer cards are the same. The sentences are also easily decodable for beginning readers. Using His, Her & Their also teaches your child about the subject in each sentence as they are underlined in the cards.

Using I & Me (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families | Age 5+ | 1+ players | Price $$ | Duration 10-20 min

Using I and Me is a matching card game for teaching first-person pronouns. This game comes with 52 illustrated cards. This set demonstrates how to use these pronouns to write a sentence and the difference between the two.

You can use this deck to play Go Fish and Memory. Or play it as a Fill-in-the-Blanks game, where:

  • The teacher picks and reads a card
  • Player one fills in the blank with the correct pronoun
  • They get a token for every correct answer
  • Then, play continues until they finish the deck.
  • The student with the most tokens wins.

This card game is easy to set up and play, so I highly recommend it for homes and schools. It also teaches sentence construction and the difference between subjective and objective pronouns. Some adult supervision is necessary for some gameplay, but players can also play alone without one.

Pronouns Playing Cards (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families and Schools | Age 7+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

Pronouns Playing CardsOpens in a new tab. is a set of actual playing cards featuring a multiple-choice question. It can be used to play any classic playing card game, including:

  • Old Maid
  • Crazy Eights
  • War!
  • Go Fish
  • Snap!

This set tackles four types of pronouns: subjective, objective, possessive and reflexive. It also has a secret decoder flashlight that lets your child check the card for the correct answer. The box also comes with three decks, so you can use it in classrooms.

I think Pronouns Playing Cards is a great game to have because:

  • It comes with three decks of cards, perfect for use at home or schools
  • The sentences are decodable and easy to read
  • It teaches the different types of pronouns and how to use them in sentences
  • It offers a fun way to check the answers using the secret decoder

It is necessary to note that you cannot opt to focus on one type of pronoun at a time because they are combined in a deck. So extensive knowledge of all the types is necessary to play the game easily.

Pronouns Board Games

Pronoun Party (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families and Schools | Age 6+ | 2-6 players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

Pronoun PartyOpens in a new tab. is a roll-and-move board game where players work in teams in a race across the board. It focuses on subjective, objective, reflexive, and possessive pronouns. And the goal may either be to beat the other teams to the end of the board or collect the most party cards.

There are two rules in the pronoun cards—“Keep” or “Give Away.” Players first use the pronoun in a model sentence. And then, they either keep or give the card away. If there are no labels on the card, they can keep it.

I like this game because:

  • it focuses on a specific set of pronouns per game (e.g., I/you, my/your) so children will not get overwhelmed during play
  • it shows how to use pronouns with verbs and objects
  • it teaches sentence construction
  • it promotes cooperative play
  • It comes with eight game boards, so it can also be used in classrooms

Types of Pronouns Learning Center (NewPath Learning)

★★★☆☆

For Families and Schools | Age 6+ | 2-4 players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

NewPath Learning’s Types of Pronouns Learning CenterOpens in a new tab. comes with 30 self-checking question cards, a double-sided board game, and a visual learning guide.

Before using the board game, players are advised to review the visual learning guide to refresh their memory. It shows the difference between the pronoun types and a sample sentence. Then, they can take turns going around the board and answering the multiple-choice question cards.

What I like about this board game is the learning guide. It is a helpful tool for literacy centers in schools, so teachers do not need to assist their children at all times. It is also great that it has self-correcting cards for instant feedback. However, I don’t think this game has high replayability, as there are only 30 question cards. And four players can quickly go through and finish this set.

Pronouns Flashcards

Pronouns (Richardy)

★★☆☆☆

For Families and Schools | Age 6+ | 1+ players | Price $ | Duration 10-20 min

PronounsOpens in a new tab. is a set of 17 double-sided flashcards featuring 34 different pronouns. Each card features a pronoun and a brief description of the type of pronoun. The cards also come with an illustration of each pronoun.

I think this can be a helpful tool for teaching pronouns. However, I am giving Pronouns two stars only because the description for each type is repetitive. It would have been better if the cards only showed the type, excluding the definition and a sample sentence to see how to use the word.

Pronouns in Action (Super Duper Publications)

★★★★☆

For Families and Schools | Age 6+ | 1+ players | Price $$$ | Duration 10-20 min

Pronouns in ActionOpens in a new tab. comes with 120 photo cards featuring real-life illustrations of verbs. There are 40 verbs and three photo cards per one. For example, the verb bake comes in:

  • Photo 1 – she bakes
  • Photo 2 – he bakes
  • Photo 3 – they bake

This set focuses on common verbs and subjective pronouns, showing different ways to use them in context. I like it because:

  • It has color photos, which is engaging for children
  • It teaches basic sentence construction
  • It is a set of flashcards, but it can be used to play different games like matching and memory games.
  • No reading is required except for the verb, so it is great for non-readers and readers alike.

Parts of Speech Flashcards, Board, and Card Games

Learning about pronouns is necessary to improve your child’s vocabulary and writing skills. And there are several types of pronouns, so it is excellent to make study time more fun for children, especially since they start learning about it in kindergarten.

You can also make learning about the other parts of speech a more engaging experience with these board and card game recommendations:

François Guély

I have been creating educational games since 2001, and I transformed this passion into my professional activity when I created ARITMA in 2006. Aritma is a publisher of educational card games, which currently proposes 18 different games, and increases its collection each year. I am always curious about new learning games, wherever they come from and their form.
